how to identify year on a w113

Help me ID the year of a beat up car that I may purchase. (has no title or registration)
Its a w113/280sl  california coupe,paint is 304G. as shown on the paint codes near the engine.What year is it. It is a US version by the headlights and bumper guards. any way to tell by looking at it? where can I find the year on the car?

Thanks john i was able to figure out alot on how to read the paint code but what does
0 733 41   07462 mean on the last line of the paint code?
 dont have data card any way to find out year based on the color on the car which  is th horizon blue 304g it looks like the year would be 1963-1968. It has a 904g midnight blue hardtop which was used between 1968-1971 so i am assuming the car is a 1968???

There should be data plate on the drivers side door hinge post. The VIN is stamped on the plate. If the plate is missing the VIN is also stamped on the frame under the air cleaner hose connected to the plenum.

The number you asked about on the plate on the inside of the engine compartment, drivers side - the last five digits are the body number. The last four digits 7462 should be stamped on the edge of the hood, the inside of the hard top and the transmission cover plate, the soft top cover.
