Color interior
« on: May 18, 2014, 14:47:00 »
Hello Group,
I bought a 230sl 1966 that was sitting in a guys garage neglected for 15 years. I already put apart the whole interior and I'm restoring everything inside. All MB TEx and Vinyl are in great shape but the color obviously faded in may spots. I'll dye the whole interior on the original color that the car came from factory with. I'm debating with Worlduph people to get the correct color and they are not sure about it. The ones they have available for the car is a dark blue and I'm sure that this is not the correct one. Checking the forum and some other pictures I sought that could be Turquoise? Any help is appreciated as I want to keep the car original as possible.
Regards from Miami.
Regards
Caio

Surest way is to get the data card from MB. Give your car's serial number to a sympathetic MB parts guy and he should be able do to this for you. You may only get an electronic copy, but it will give you the manufacturing details of your car, including the interior colour. There is also a classic car centre in California I believe that may be faster to react. Look them up on Google. See elsewhere on this forum on how to read the data card.

Looks like a nice car by the way! Are all the parts there? And how did you get that Mustang parked like that? ;D

Do they make vinyl dies to bring the interior vinyl back to its original colour? I looked a while ago and couldn't find anything.

Grateful if you could post some info on a recommended product.

Thanks.

Jpinet Yes the car is complete..It just needs a lot of love and care…I already removed the whole interior and reassured everything but the upholstery waiting to get the right dye color. There are couple surface rust I need to remove and than install new carpet. I'll ask the data card.

James Yes they do and the process it is not complicated. You just need to clean the vinyl with the correct product as much as you can for the dye work properly. I did a try with the dye Worlduph sent me(which was wrong not their mistake) and I used in a sample and it came out really good. It is labor intensive but it can be done. On my case it is worth it because all upholstery are really good but faded.

Caio

I have turquoise interior in my car MB Tex 112, very rare. Dying the MB tex not much of an issue, finding the carpet is the real issue. I'm working with a second vendor to try and dye the carpet, first one did not work out very well.

Try Leatherique. They're in the Tech manual under suppliers.
They will color match a swatch you send them.

For pictures and interior colors I recommend you click on Technical Manual above (unless you have done so I before).

Then enter into the Search field "interior Color"

Scroll down to interior and you can see pictures of various interiors.

Good luck!

Color Plus also helped me with a Ferrari leather interior restoration.  Joanne was very helpful with matching the color.
