Standing water
« on: September 03, 2014, 13:18:16 »
I just noticed a puddle in my engine bay. I am sure it shouldn't be there and while I have sponged the area, want to work out how to prevent it happening

The puddle was directly under the brake master (booster) cylinder so am wondering a number of things:
  • is something "out of true" to allow water to pool there rather than drain through a drain hole elsewhere?
  • is there a drain hole under there which is blocked/not doing it's job?
I think I know how it's got in - car has been standing in the rain for a few days and am guessing water is running off the bulkhead and going into engine bay at the corner of the wing/firewall and hood. Why it stays there is a mystery (it's not a mystery as it's clear as day it's not draining!)

Any thoughts appreciated!

On my LHD 280, there is a drain hole directly under the booster.

Thanks John
I've just discovered on my RHD 280 there is too :-[ I checked the other side and spotted a hole by the chassis rail. My neighbour is having his car detailed and the chap let me borrow his industrial blower. Blew a load of air into that  area under the booster and spotted the hole. One dismembered coathanger later and I now have a hole, not a damp muddy plug...

phew!

And if you feel right around under the booster on the firewall underneath you will probably find some rust :o :o :o
