I have a holiday home in Croatia, on a nice Island just off the coast near Split.
When I first discovered the area I sought out and found a local guide/ interpretor; a rally nice guy called Fabjan who just happened to have an interest in classic cars. One of them being an old 115 diesel that he would subsequently lend me whenever I was in town.
A little over a year ago he emailed with an offer of some pagoda parts that he had found; headlamps, rear lights, front grill, all good stuff that I could have for 1700 Euros. I sent him the money and he said that he would store the parts in his cellar until I needed them
I've been too busy until now to go over there but I just visited and when I called his number his son answered and gave me the very sad news that Fabjan had died of a heart attack last September, just a few days after I last spoke to him.
The point of my anger is this:
Fabjan's son told me that as soon as his father had died all manner of people turned up claiming ownership of all of the stuff gathered in Fabjan's cellar. They picked over the bones of a dead man as sure as any vulture would pick the bones of a Saharan desert animal.
I am certainly angry that all of my parts have been stolen, but I am sickened by the behaviour of a man's so-called friends who would seek to deny a poor bereaved family of what little they had left.
So, if anyone is offered any pagoda parts by anyone in that region please forward me their contact details so I can re-educate them
