Electrical System - Wire Sizes
« on: December 15, 2014, 19:33:52 »
I am in the process of doing restoration work on my 1968 280 SL.  I need to rewire the electrical harness. Does anyone know the conversion of metric wire gauge to standard gauge (AWG)?  The wiring schematic shows various metric gauges (0.5, 0.75, 1.25, 4.0) that I need to convert. Thanks in advance.

Someone probably has easy cross references that match up --- however this generic chart may give you what you want.
250sl - later - manual
280sl - 1971 - Auto - LSD

Nonsense,
Jzearfoss,
Stop that fuzz. :P ::)

This is an (continental) European car and as such there are only metric sizes correct, no weird inch or whatsoever sizes.
You aren't using Whitworth or such improper bolts and nuts on your Pagoda either, aren't you?  :o

Go get correct metric wires with the correct sizes and colors.  ;)
Those are available. Probably not at every Pep Boys - but available.
Do a little search at Auto (car's) electric suppliers. 8)

Or why do you think had I done the proper wiring diagrams for the community 15 years ago, huh?

P.S. I have gained quite some experience with repairing my own wiring harness.
Pls. ask me what you need to know.
