Reverse gear has gone AWOL
« on: September 13, 2014, 20:22:00 »
My wife and I were out in the Pagoda for our usual Saturday morning coffee run (with the poodle) when reverse gear dissapeared. Luckily it wasn`t in an impossible situation so we got home ok. On the drive we had backed it out of the garage, no problem, backed it into the parking space at coffee, no problem, tried to reverse at the end of a dead end street - thats when reverse suddenly went AWOL ( probably didn`t look that dignified for a Pagoda - my right leg out the drivers door scooting us backwards like Fred Flintstone!)

Linkeage adjustment is my choice so I was after suggestions on which one to target.

The gear lever will move across to the left ok then start its travel backwards but not go far enough to engage. Which adjustment is likely to be the culprit please?

Thanks

George

Had the same issue a short while back, turns out my problem was that the cups that keep the ball at the base of the shifter were worn...as in shot.  Replacement is fairly simple once you figure out the sequence.  I disconnected the linkage at the front (access plate under carpet in front of driveshaft tunnel) and then pulled the entire linkage out from hole through which the gearshift fits.  I changed all the rubber while I was in there, there is a lower boot, a lower pad, and an upper pad.  But the culprit was the pair of cupped nylon bushings.  Once I replaced them everything was tight and happy.
