So I visited 4 Paint/Body shops in and around New Orleans, LA today and it's become very clear that we probably don't have a reputable shop that I can trust with my 1969 280 SL. It seems as no one in the area likes to do "restoration" work and all these guys live for is insurance collision repairs.
It is a straightforward job that would not require any body work. The car needs to be taken down to bare metal, treated and painted. I will be removing all trim, chrome, lights etc. Leaving windscreens in for the shop to deal with removing and replacing all rubber glass seals as I don't have that expertise. Also will have them restore the "notches" that were removed sometime over the life of the car during one of its last paint jobs.
Can anyone recommend a reputable paint shop/restorer in the Southeast U.S.? I see a lot of great restorers that know our cars on the West Coast. I have no issue with shipping the car off, but would rather find someone in the region where I live.
