TV series "Rush" featuring Pagoda in staring role
« on: June 24, 2014, 23:58:50 »
Just saw a commercial for a new TV series on the USA channel starting July 17 titled "Rush". Looks horrible but the main character drives a very nice '71 ( I believe) Pagoda. Here is link to a promo. http://www.usanetwork.com/rush/home

I noticed it is filmed in Vancouver, B.C. Any member from that neck of the woods know this car?

Sorry about that. Not sure if this series will ever be shown outside of North America. Maybe on DVD's someday.

The car, appears to be a 280SL automatic, got quite a bit of air time in yesterday's episode. It broke down with an undertermined but smokey problem and had to be towed. It was repaired and back on the road by the end of the episode. The doctor is always messing around with his music player while driving, looks like he has a iPod in the glove box now.

The show is pretty offbeat and not the greatest, but it's nice to see the SL in a sharp grey color.

The Pagoda appears to be a 250 - mirror give it away - the 280 has a different mirror neck - 230 & 250's I believe to be the same.

I could stand to be corrected.

Not sure what is going on behind the seat? kinder seat, California coupe?? I record the show and FF to just watch the scenes with the pagoda. Show looks horrible and the "star" appears to be a creep IMO. Still, any time an example of our car gets on TV weekly is not a bad thing I guess.

Watched the "Pilot" Episode.  The Pagoda is clearly a character in this show -- it's played up.  If the show takes off, and they continue making the car a central piece of the main character's identity, the pagoda's profile should rise with this tide.  ( I wonder if a Pagoda Fan is involved with the making of this show -- John Travolta?)

The marketing for this "cable," non-network show is significant in the LA area at the moment -- they have wallpapered the town.  It's clear they're putting massive marketing dollars behind this series.  This marketing blitz usually only carries a show for 3 or 4 episodes, after that it will live or die based on it's own.

I did notice that in the insert shots of the Auto Gear Shift, they chose to show the shifting like most cars where you pull the gear shift from front to back (top to bottom) in order to put the car in Drive, rather than the reality of the pagoda shift pattern which is back to front.  Understandably, as audiences might be confused if it looks like he's putting the car in Park, but then driving away.

The mirror (and a whole bunch of other stuff on the interior) changed at 250 SL VIN 2980, when the new DOT safety requirements went into effect. So a late 250 SL would have a similar mirror as a 280 SL (matte finish, black).

I managed to get a copy of this show here as well… (don't ask, I know a little too much about the inter webs, it seems). Looks quite interesting but I doubt the integrity of the main character (and no, I don't mean the pagoda)…

I too am worried about this 'doctor', not sure he will be a credit to other Pagoda owners...
