Auto Transmission Filter- Rubber Seal Question
« on: October 23, 2014, 12:24:41 »
I'm planning to change the Auto Transmission Fluid and filter. Ive ordered and received the "Mann Filter Kit" which includes the filter pictured below as well as a new gasket for the pan.
There's a round cork seal on the one side of the filter.
What's puzzling me is that  the U-shaped rubber seal on the other side is not included. Having trawled the WWW it appears that this seal is no longer available.

Is this rubber seal re-usable if I remove it from the old filter?
Which then begs the question of how do you attach the rubber seal to the new filter without contaminating the fluid- adhesives etc?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I have subsequently tracked down an original  Mercedes OEM part which includes the rubber seal.

Thanks and best,
Mike

Hi,
the rubber seal is reusable. Just put it down from the old filter and press it on to the new one. There are some knobs on it, see the holes on your new filter. More important is the direction where to place the open side of the rubber seal: backwards, see picture.
