Dash Wood Finish?

Here is a simple one for the experts - is the dash wood, satin, flat, or gloss finish, or something in between?

If I had to guess, I would say satin.

Does your car have a hard top? The wood trim around the rear window, due to its positioning, usually holds up well and might offer you a clue to the finish.

I think satin, too, although I re-did mine in gloss and it looks fine to me.  Might be a bit too shiny for some, but I have heard "comments" that the factory finish is a bit too flat.  So, to each their own.

A lot of the repro replacements which I have seen have a deep gloss finish, so I replicated that

A "flat-satin" would be how I would describe mine. Definitely not glossy.

On my 280 SL, I will go with 49er, flat/satin. Just took a look at the hardtop, and would (wood?) have to say, more towards satin.

And don't fill the grain like more recent Mercedes where the wood has a glass smooth finish.

We use car clear coat which can be done in a flat, semi gloss or gloss.

We are going with gloss in this example of 220seb wood. This is a total of 8 coats. 2 coats at a time then sanded and re-cleared.

I'm not a purist and neither are many of my customers.
I ask what they would like ; light, dark, walnut, oak, gloss, matt or satin.
They get whatever suits them.
Personally I really like high gloss walnut but some people hate it.
