New Old Car in the Garage
« on: December 23, 2014, 19:39:55 »
Now living with the Pagoda... here's a 1929 Franklin Speedster.  My dad owned a Franklin while going to college, so recently he got a bug to get another one.  We found his original car... a 1925 Doctor's Coupe... all restored and not very far away, but the owner wasn't willing to sell. So we found this wonderful '29 Speedster instead.  The commonality between the Pagoda and Speedster... is that both companies were/are highly regarded for their technological advances. Franklins had many advancements for the time... including air cooled engines, full eliptical spring suspension, improved carburation, aluminum pistons and aluminum bodies.  It's a good looking car... the Speedster model was designed by Raymond Dietrich, who also designed bodies for Packard.  Franklin made cars from 1902 through 1934, then succumbed to financial pressures following the Depression.
