Engine Valve Replacement
« on: December 08, 2014, 13:43:48 »
Hello Everyone,

I am looking for advise on replacement engine valves for the new head for my 1970 280SL I am building. I am a proponent of original parts but have been looking at TRW valves and would like the opinion of people who have experience with or can offer advise please.

Save yourself a fortune and buy them from a reputable engine parts supplier. Just make sure they are the correct ones.

I ask because I can purchase 6 intake valves made by TRW for $100.00 and 6 TRW exhaust valves for $150.00. Less that half the price of MB and TRW generally has a good name.

You can go to TRW's (Federal Mogul) website and explore mfg & material data.  We've had 40+ years' experience with TRW and have had no problems.  That said, things do change with mergers, factory moves etc.  Check locally with experienced engine builders.  Jon

The valves in our era Mercedes are VERY stout and are not even close to pushing the limits of the steel.  I wouldn't worry a bit about aftermarket valves from a reputable supplier like TRW.
