What the young think is cool

I had a co-worker come to me today ask me what it is that makes our cars so special (where do I start...).   Her son (Mark) is in a business / career planning course at high school and the instructor has them doing an exercise to determine what kind of income and appropriate professions it will take to be able to support a family (two full time working parents), a $300,000 mortgage and a “serious fun” car worth $60-70,000, as if they were 45 today.   

I was impressed that the Pagoda hit the “serious fun” button for an 18 yr old.   Mark's vehicles he thought he would like if he were 45 are:

•   1969 Mercedes 280sl
•   1974 Jaguar XKE
•   1999 Ferrari 360
•   2005 Aston Martin DB9
•   2008 Maserati Gran Tourismo
•   2009 Nissan GTR
•   2009 Porsche 911 Carrera
•   2015 Corvette
•   2015 Chev 2500 Diesel 4X4

Contrary to Mark’s previous beliefs about post secondary education, he is now planning on heading to University (to take Engineering).

Always great to hear that the young generation becomes fond of the vintage beauties. Mark seems to be quite specific about the cars you quoted. Just curious: why he mentioned for example a 1969 Pagoda? Is it any different from say a 1970 one? Or just because it's the year of your car?

No idea why '69.   Never thought about year of my car.  I don't even think he knew I have one.  My guess is that he picked the 69 Pagoda because that was what was listed in Craigslist at the time he did his project within his price range.

He may (like many of us at that age) like the Benz and that may be why the Pagoda made number 2 on his project list.

When I got my Pagoda in 2013 my daughter (twice Mark's age at that time married to a car nut like me) when I told her about my find and purchase said "dad that is the first car you ever purchased that will actually gain in value and not deprichiate like all the others you purchased in the past" she concluded in saying "don't you ever sell this car" She was in the UK at the time and only saw photos of the car. Not being Mark's young age, she still knew the the value of the car, perhaps her husband once took her to that shop downtown London, the one Jerramey Clarson took one out for a test run. I have to ask her

I think some of the younger generation knows the value if just the fun value of our cars, I got plenty of thumbs up from younger folks for the short time that I own my "Blue Tornado"
