Why is that six so narrow
« on: April 30, 2015, 10:34:16 »
Every time I drive my car and that narrow 6 pops up on my Odometer I wonder why is it so much more narrow than the other numbers ? While posting a message on the low mileage thread this morning I noticed the six again and decide to throw my question in the group.

Can't really come up with any another plausible explanation than for not to confuse it with a zero, is that the rational behind it?

But than why isn't it the case at the trip Odometer?

Anyone has any idea ?

Leave it to Al Liefring to know this level of detail about this obscure a part.  To make room for the cog that moves the wheel to the left one integer for every rotation of the wheel to the right.  Who'd a thunk it.

FWIW, I had an early seventies BMW motorcycle and I noticed...but never understood why...the skinny sixes.

Thanks, now I can sleep!
