Early 250sl Master cylinder

I need a new master cylinder for my 67 250sl serial 02375.
All my searches come back with the Cardone 11-1919 but for after chassis 02980.

Part numbers tell me
Early 001-430-89-01
Late 002-430-28-01

I can not find a knock off for the early 001-430-89-01.
Are they interchangeable? I know the reservoirs are different.   

Anyone know of a reasonably priced alternative?

Is it easy to rebuild the one I have now?

That is (almost outrageously) expensive. I'd say stocking over head, stripy shirt and bag marked 'swag' territory, frankly.

Have you tried SLS in Germany, or even your local MB dealer who will provide classic parts? I got a new MC when I converted my rear axle (because I went from drums to discs). It cost €157 about 18 months ago and was the genuine MB part from MB admittedly with a good discount. PN 001 430 8901. Fits on a late 230 booster; reservoir fits perfectly; almost completely identical in every way.

I'd start with MB, then SLS, etc.

You may be better off buying a later one and fitting a new reservoir if there's something super special about the 250 one.

I'll admit I didn't look beyond genuine MB.  But the SLS price is 267.75 EURO...when this converted to USD and shipping added, it's not far off from the $328 price I quoted.  I would aim for the OEM at least!   Was the early master cylinder manufactured by ATE?

When I changed my rear axle over to a LSD it had rear disc brakes. I found a used brake force regulator and I made all of the usual changes to make this conversion. The one thing I didn't change was MC. It fits the original brake booster and so far, after a couple of years, braking has been excellent.

 I won't, under any circumstances, rebuild a MC unless I have absolutely no other options.
