drive shaft

  well i finaly got my 230sl 4 speed out of the paint shop last week, great to have it back.
my question is that i now have a thumping noise comming from under the middle hump around the shifter.   i took a look under the car to see if the problem was obviouse (maby somthing hitting the drive shaft) but all looks good. My next step is the removal of the drive shaft to check all of the U joint and flex disk. Dose anyone have any tips for removing the shaft?
any help will be great.

I had a thumping noise like that that appeared when putting a slight load on the engine.  It was the flex disc self destructing.  Make sure to make scribe marks for the trans support before you remove it. Check the trans rear seal for leakage while you're up there.  The rubber disc doesnt like oil.
