Bosch short fuel pump
« on: June 29, 2015, 10:53:52 »
My fuel pump has not failed yet but I normally carry a spare. I am shocked at the price of the Bosch fuel pump for the later Pagodas. Here in Europe the list is over £1000, discounted about £700
Whats more they are unobtainable, even Bosch dont have any. What happens if my pump fails far from home?
It is only a fuel pump, other cars have these for fuel injection and the cost about £100 available off the shelf
So my question is     Has anyone taken the leap of changing this pump out and fitting a modern one? and if so how and what?

These are easily rebuildable and several people out there will provide the service - I have a rebuilt unit as my spare.  This is the cleanest way to go, I would think.

But first  you have to have one to rebuild, of it is to be a spare. Bosch Germany have a factory rebuilt one for sale, its very cheap, only 1300 dollars.

I had to replace mine last year and bought a new one from Niemoeller in Germany for about €700-, they still have them in stock: http://www.niemoeller.de/w113-en/B044-472.html

Also have a look at this post regarding alternative fuel pumps: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=20410.msg146703#msg146703

I just rebuilt mine.  I don't think of them as fragile at all.
