Mystery box in front of fuse panel

Would someone be kind enough to help me identify the small box in front of the fuse panel on the firewall.  It appears to have 2 brackets inside.  This box is on the driver side between the fuse panel and the round black relay.  Many thanks in advance

If this box in question has a thumbscrew and cover that can be removed, It is a small fusebox. If it is a USA model, 68 or older it is the fuse box for the front fog lamps inside the AC style headlamp doors.

Quite right!  Attached (I hope) is a photo of the box with the cover removed.

Yep, Thats it. Put an 8 amp fuse in there and see if your fogs work. You need to put your headlight switch in position 1 or 2 and pull the knob to activate. Try both positions as sometimes they are wired differently.

Hard to tell from the photo, but isn't the back spring tab missing? The fuses have cone shaped ends and should fit into a spring clip on each side.

It does not have to be a fuse box for fog lights it can also be an auxiliary fuse box for the radio and/or power antenna.
Search for "auxiliary fuse box" and you'll get many different answers!

Alfred, Yes, but those are usually on the passenger side.
