Transmission slip on a 68' 250sl.

Hey all,
    I recently started driving my 250sl after having the engine rebuilt.  When I first drove it, the transmission clunked on 1st and 2nd gear.  Next morning when I tried driving the car, the transmission started slipping out of gear with any acceleration.  My transmission fluid I discovered was low because the fluid was blowing out of the top of the transmission pump.  I replaced the pump wing nut, which gave me a proper seal.  I then refilled the transmission fluid while hot.  Fluid level is wear it should be and my transmission is still slipping. Please help.

Good advice, yes, make sure that the engine is running and the car is on level ground when you check the transmission fluid level.

I don't believe there is a "transmission pump".

I replaced the pump wing nut, which gave me a proper seal.
As "fosdicke" said, you may be dealing with the power steering fluid reservoir.  It has a wing nut on top, is round, and is located near the distributor.

I then refilled the transmission fluid while hot.
If you're putting transmission fluid in your power steering fluid reservoir, you may be causing other problems.

      I was putting tranny fluid in the power steering reservoir.  I haven't been able to run the car, but I think you solved my problem.  I'm gonna refill my fluids.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks again for your help.

Not at all, they're the same fluid.
