Suspension saftey issue

I was working on brakes and noticed a nut on the xxxxxxx was loose. I do not know if I should tighten it. It seems to have a grove down the bolt for a pin or something. The passenger side is snug but the is also no retaining? pin. Should I put a pin in? How tight should it be. Does it effect alignment?
