Who to sell through in the UK?
« on: July 16, 2015, 06:38:00 »
Gentlemen,
Lack of space and the near completion of my '71 Porsche 911 restoration has me thinking about selling my much loved, RHD, 2 owner, fully restored and  very low original mileage 1967 250SL, currently living comfortably in Perth, Western Australia.
As she was delivered new in London in 1967, to a famous automobile family, it seems logical to offer her back to the UK, where she can be a returning classic and tax free.

Can anyone recommend a trusted dealer with experience with good classic Mercedes to talk to?

Hi,

Your car looks great, can you send some "Perth" weather over to me please !

If this link works

http://www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk/Membership/Gazette.aspx

you can probably down load the current edition of the M-Benz "Gazette" which has many of the UK dealers advertising within.

There should be a good market for your car here, for a uk value, check out

Hope this helps

Why not list it with photos in the items for sale  section on the forum? It may even sell in Australia.

Ozzy dollar is so poor at the moment that selling a UK delivered classic in Australia does not seem to be a good strategy.

If an Australian buyer is prepared to pay the asking price, why should it matter where in the world the car was first registered?
As a matter of interest what is the asking price?

Did you get a price Eric?, I'd guess it's a case of strong pound and rhd demand fuelling the sale. I thought these cars were popular in the Aus market especially looking at historical posts from members such as Garry etc

I watch with interest.

I had a UK car (280SL 5 speed) that I sold in Australia rather than UK.  The exchange rate is in the UK favour but I am not sure it is enough to cover all the costs that an export/import will attract in this case.

Hello Neil,
Still waiting, it does make you wonder.
It seems a great shame to return the car to the UK (or anywhere in the world)  when there must be buyers in Australia wanting these cars.
