Hans seems to be on the right track. usually the first three digits are first use. In this case OM352 diesel. The next three(589) denote special tool. The last 2 digits are the sub part number or in this case it isn't part of a set. whenever you see 01, 02 etc in the last 2 digits try swapping "00" for the last 2 digits which will give you the set part #.
Whatever it is it is still current and I found a reference to Freightliner so I am guessing Sprinter Diesel. As for what it specifically is I am guessing it is an adaptor to mount an engine on an engine stand.
