What is this part??
« on: September 27, 2015, 07:44:23 »
I thought I had been very diligent in the strip down of this car but as I was going through the last couple of boxes of nuts and bolts to send away for plating, and there are hundreds. I came across this part. There were a few bits laid in the glove compartment when I got the car and I think this may have been amongst them so it may not even be anything. Any ideas?

I bagged and labelled absolutely everything as it has come apart, I have taken over 1000 photos, really! since this project started and am surprised that I would have left something so odd looking unlabelled or with no picture, note, anything. It's about an inch across.

Someone put me out of my misery.

I've had just about every piece of a 113 apart and I've never seen anything like this. Unless it comes from an auto trans or a power steering box, which I doubt, then it's a random part.

That's what I figured, I was surprised at myself that I had left it untagged so figured I couldn't have removed it, trouble is I started this project very nearly 2 years ago and thought I may have forgotten..

A mystery.
Do you have the original Hirschmann antennae?
Looks like an aftermarket washer for an antennae.
Nothing original will have that washer on the car.

How big it is?  It looks like a double lock ring.  Those tabs look like they bend down over the flats of a nut.  Maybe from a front wheel bearing lock nut?

Not from a wheel bearing, it isn't big enough. Maybe from an antenna, mine is I think an original with a blue end cap on it, pretty shabby though. Also I bagged all the antenna stuff when it came off.

I think it is an errant part, I may offer it as a prize to whoever can guess what it is.

It looks the same as the 2 locking washers when I took apart & repaired my indicator stalk.

These 2 washers were with the 2 tiny bolts holding the stalk into the control box against the small ball bearing under spring pressure.

I agree with Walter, possibly a antenna mounting part from a non-original antenna.

Looks like the washer between the piston and spring inside the tandem brake master cylinder front chamber.

I guess the indicator washer and brake master cylinder washer may be feasible, I haven't taken either of these items apart yet so if it is from those then it was prior to my ownership. The aerial part is a possibility too.

For now I have put it in a bag on it's own marked 'WTF' and will keep it until such time as I discover what it is or I'm driving off into the sunset with my lovely wife in my freshly restored Pagoda.

Have it plated.  If you need it it's done and if not it makes a great story if not a great key fob.   It looks to me like a lock washer that goes on something that has lash like a steering box where you set the lash with an inner nut, drop the washer in points down and screw another nut down on to of it to lock it all together.  The points(Prongs?) keep the lower adjusting nut from tightening.

MC doesn't anything inside that looks like that. Indicator is a casting with a number of mall parts inside - no washer like that though.

The master cylinder does have a washer like that in the front chamber between the spring and the piston .

I like Shvegal's idea though. I may get it silver plated and have it as my keyring for this car, would need to set it in resin so it didn't chip the dash or catch in pockets....I can't believe I actually gave it this amount of thought today....
