fuel injection oil

I finally got the steering box back in and it seems to be working fine.

Now I have a large puddle of oil underneath the car. I am pretty sure it is coming from the fuel injection pump. My question is how much and what type oil should I put in the pump? I cannot find that information in the owners manual or any of the repair manuals that I have.

Is the fuel injection leak common? Is there a fairly easy fix?

The fuel injection pump uses engine oil. On the later cars the oil pumps from the engine. The 250 SL and 230 SL have a separate system (and cooler). Would suspect a connection or line leak. They do not take all that much oil, and you should be able to use the search function to find the amount. This has been typed about before on the forum.

From memory I think the capacity is something like 180ml. It's not much. And yes, engine oil. Empty the pump using a domestic plant spray thingy (spring loaded with s siphon tube that goes into the pump and 'spray' the oil out). As you refill check the level on the less than brilliant dipstick.

Mine (230sl), after I syphoned it completely with a large syringe, took exactly 8oz. Keep an eye on the warm start solenoid. Many times the oil works it's way through the solenoid and leaks out the terminal end around the sides. This can be remedied by putting a bead of epoxy around the leaking end and smoothing it with a finger like bathtub caulking to keep it looking A+

Sorry to break into this post, but my question seems to fit in here as a follow-up,  My 230SL has not been used for a number of years and I am getting running again.  The car started and ran, but not very well.  There was a strong smell of gas as well.  Based on posts found in the search engine, I checked the fuel injection rack and found it not functioning smoothly.  I pulled the injection pump and removed the check valves using a tool suggested by wwheeler.  I soaked it with alcohol for several days, then with marvel mystery oil.  The rack moves smoothly now and I am ready to put the pump back in.  I had flooded the pump with a lot of alcohol and then mystery oil, and I believe there will be some residual mystery oil on the rack, plunger, springs, etc. 

Two questions:
1. Is this a problem when the car is started? 
2. Should I add oil in the injection pump at the engine oil line connection point prior to starting up?

I've also seen them leak around the control shaft on the linkage. This is not something you can fix on your own and the pump would need to be sent to a re-builder.
