potentially stupid wiper arm adjustment question
« on: April 29, 2015, 22:16:16 »
Wiper were not working so I removed the wiper arm and checked the motor to see if it was turning.

Good news, it turns freely when activated and completely rotates 360 degrees.

Here is my potentially stupid question.

Is it supposed to turn 360 degrees?  If so, it seems like the linkage arm is too short to support 360 degrees.

What am I am missing here?

Thanks in advance

The motor turns 360 degrees and a system of very clever linkages makes it all work.  :)I would look to see if one or both arms are freely moving before deciding what to do. The right side arm isn't too bad to get apart but the left one will try your swearing ability to the limit.  >:(You will pretty much need to remove everything behind the dash to get the left side out if it's siezed up.  :(
It doesn't happen that often but it does. If that's the case, it's a good time to go through the gauges and heater matrix since it has to come out anyway. ::)

Benz Dr.

Thank you, I can see that now. And yes I am fearful of having to take everything apart.  Again.

Did this job a few weeks ago ... tried everything but nothing worked .  Tried penetrating oil with pressure , soaking , the works .... there's only one way to go and strip the dash again .
Afterwards you will be happy and surprised how far your left wiper actually goes . Mine always stopped in the middle of view .. a bear of a job but doable as long as you take your time and stay relaxed .

Dis-connect the battery when your working up in there. If you accidentally have the ignition on and move the motor off rest, it will activate automatically. If your hands and fingers are in the wrong place, you can get seriously injured. Al Liefring, posted a procedure some years back on using special tools to inject lubricant and free-up those stuck pivots while in place.
