1966 230SL Soft Top Question
« on: November 16, 2015, 22:41:40 »
I think that I asked this before but without results.  I recently installed the GAT soft top on my 230SL and adjusted the wires along the edge above the door windows to pull the top down snug to the top of the window.  The issue is that the rubber piece on the top that seals along the frame above the window is not flush because the rubber is riding on the "roll over" portion of the 2nd bow (behind the front bow that fastens to the windshield).

I suppose that I could pull this wire even tighter, and maybe that is the solution.  The other option would be to remove part of the rubber where it meets the bow (which I am reluctant to do).

So what is the experience and recommendations from those who have done this installation?

Thanks very much!
Harry

Sorry.  Here are some pictures.  I hope the issue is clear.  I could pull the wire tight enough to draw the rubber down over the bow but I'm concerned that I might pull the wire out of the loop at the end where it is fastened to the front bow.  Thoughts?

The wire does have to be pretty tight, mine did pull out of the front fixing I re-soldered it making a
much stronger joint. The rubber strip should fill the gap. I did not have to modify the rubber
strip in any way.

Thanks - so you top pulls the rubber down below the end of the bow?  (I guess it would have to.  I'd like to avoid having to fish the eyelet end out of the top then re-thread the end back into the installed top if I can.  That had to be tough.  I appreciate your time and feedback very much.
