Dealing with the Brain Dead
« on: October 19, 2004, 09:21:34 »
Well after a week no response from John R Wier (MB Dealer in aberdeen)
Go round...
Converstaion as follows:
"Any news on my data card or workshop manual :?:  :?: "

"Oh no, no response from MB UK regarding the datacard.... I have never ordered a workshop manual before I don't know how to do it[:0]"

"Well here is the part number (Thanks chaps!) for a CD...."

"Oh you can get them on CD????"
"Yeeeeesssssss! Why don't you call MB uk and find out...Let me know what happens hummmmm!"

After that I call Mercedes Benz UK...
Guess what, they operate out of a call centre in Holland....wierd

Give them my chassis number and ask for a workshop manual...

"what for such a new car as a 230 sl?,"
"no you numpty a 1965 230 sl"
"oh our records don't go back that far"

By this time I am getting rather annoyed[:(!][:(!]

"How come Mercedes lists manuals as available in the US"
"ah well MB UK is a different 'entity'"
"Don't you talk to each other???"
"Well you see it's a different territory and the manual will be different for that market..."
"Hang on in 1965 all cars for all territories were basically the same!  Isn't Daimler chrysler mercedes whatever one big international company these days????"

"well yes but you need to contact our classic centre"
"Tried that, no reponse to emails"
"Oh ring them up they speak english and  you might want to try the mercedes owners club in the UK they are good" and look on Ebay you can get secondhand manuals there from time to time ....."
"Yes but here is a part number for a CD"
"THats a US part number, it doesnt work in our system....."

At this point I was polite and hung up

Yours distinctly annoyed

Look here, Malc, I'm in the colonies and I'd be happy to help you by ordering what you need. They'd ship it to me without suspecting that I would to such a terrible thing and ship it to you.
my e-mail: pjlange@juno.com or:(206)932-0789
PS: Is that Aberdeen in Scotland? That would explain a lot of things

My guess is you can order it straight from the US Classic Center.

Then again, I've ordered materials from the German Classic Center and they were very prompt and professional. I got several of the original manuals, parts books etc. about two years ago. Sorry to hear you had such bad luck so far Malc.

Malc, it seems that the simple solution would be to order it from the states.
