Hi Friends!

My 230SL is fun to drive on in the hot or cold weather. But I find that there's a HUGE draft coming through on the passenger side, so that if it's cold outside, the little heater inside cannot keep up (when driving 50MPH or more) - the same is true regarding hot air in the summer.

I asked my really talented German mechanic and he said it was a design flaw.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how have you fixed it?

And you believe this?   I'm sure something is broken or stuck in the heater flaps or you have a big rust hole somewhere. :)

Have you read your owners manual and know how the controls work?

Possibly the antenna hole on the side kick panel has fallen out or not installed properly.
How are the mud splash panels in the wheel wells?

In Alfred's picture above,The fresh air vent on the right has a metal tube that goes directly to the firewall. If the seal at the end of this tube (seal is foam) is deteriorated, missing, or the tube is out of alignment, It will leak air to the rear of the dash regardless of the lever position. You would need to remove your under dash panel and glovebox to inspect it. There is also a rubber seal on the intake scoop flap by the wipers that could be missing. This flap is controlled by the top left lever with the blue arrow in Alfred's picture above. It lets outside air into the vehicle. This is usually set to closed when running the heater in very cold climates. Think of it as a (recirc) button we have on modern cars. Same would hold true if you have Air Conditioning. Closed if very hot outside.
