280sl cylinder head hole what is missing?
« on: February 25, 2016, 20:28:34 »
Attached photo at red arrow, we have a threaded hole but do not know what goes there please advise, it is next to cylinder #6.

Arrgg, It would have been so much simpler if this car had been assembled when it arrived. So many missing parts...

Thank you, Bob

I think that is the port for a Thermo Time Switch if your car is a late 280sl.  Earlier cars had this switch on a pod closer to spark plugs 2 & 3.  Later cars have this switch next to spark plug 6.  Sometimes, this port is used for a cooling by-pass modification and in such cases the TTS is moved into the bypass line.

250sl - later - manual
280sl - 1971 - Auto - LSD

Here is one at Auth Classics. Very Pricey

Or you can use this one with a slight harness modification. The rubber boot will hide the connection.
