I have this dipstick on my 280 engine. Is that correct?

Thierry,

Some time back we had questions about a dip stick. Do make use of our Search function you may solve your issue sooner then you think

Search link I posted does not seam to work, so go back to the Home Page then click on "Home" then type Dipstick into the Search Box and you should see several posts, in fact 6 pages highlighting "dipstick"

A quick look at your photo tells me it might be for a 230 or 250 sl

Anyway, take a measurement of your dipstick and explore the above link.

Good luck

Cheers, Dieter

Dear Rolf,
I went through the SEARCH, but so many blabla... comes on that it is too much to read and don't get what I am looking for....
Thanks for your link, I have the answer. And this kind of foolproof diptck is as I'd expected from MBZ.
I have the middle one and it fits....

Thierry

my car came with 3 dipsticks from the PO!
In order to insure that the correct one is in use, I drained the oil out of the engine and oil cooler and replaced the filter.
After filling the specified amount of 6.0 l I ran the engine for about 5 minutes, turned it off and waited for another 5 minutes then checked the dipstick.
It should be fairly below the upper level.
Sure enough, mine was incorrect but fortunately one of the 3 was correct.

Very timely post, and great picture.  I was just logging on to ask the same question and a quick search turned up your post.  The dipstick you show in picture is exactly what I have in my 1969 Euro model 280.  The numbers (230/250/67) made me wonder about it.  Did you ever determine why these are stamped on the dipstick and what they indicate?

thanks,
Jason

The same oil pan and dipstick were used in many other MB models of the era.
