Ownership costs
« on: October 29, 2004, 14:36:00 »
As I am about to replace my Vespa, the issue of ownership costs has come to front of mind. My little red Vespa has cost me, all in, about 30pence (55c) a mile. That's fully loaded- depreciation to fuel.

My Pagoda has been in my ownership for one year. I've done 2500 miles.

Assuming no depreciation it's cost me about £1 ($1.80) a mile. OK, I put in a refurb Becker GP and Cranes ignition which are not "consumables".

So.... for them as drive their cars - as opposed to mid-restoration, what's your rough cost per mile of ownership. Please feel free to ignore depreciation :D

(something tells me that this could go horribly wrong and any sane person would soon be in the market for a three year old low mileage E-class)

I figure my cost per mile is around $0.40
I worked this out based on the following:
annual average repairs and maintenance, everything included: Eur 2,500
annual insurance: Eur 500
cost per km in fuel: Eur 0.19
Everything added together based on 10,000 km per year which is my average comes to Eur 0.50 per km which equates to the $0.40 per mile (US$ to the Euro = 1.25 and a mile = 1.609 km).
Can you tell I am a CPA?
