My 1966 230 may need a rebuild.  It is still smoking and so will get the head off to check each valve guides etc.  I would like to pull the pistons as well.  Can that be done with the engine in please??

Take the head off and inspect the cylinder bores. You would need to remove the block to remove the oil pan before you can get the pistons out.

If you take the head off you are at the point where you might as well pull the whole engine and do new pistons etc. Getting the engine out is not that difficult once you have removed the exhaust manifold and intake. Just label all the wires and take a lot of pictures. a engine lift helps a lot and so does an engine stand.
