soft top frame compatibility

Hey Group,

Does anyone know if there is a possibility of using the later SL (w107) soft top frame on our cars?

The reason I ask is that there are many later SL frames available for sale in comparison to the w113 frames and they are much cheaper too.

My car never had a soft top so adding one will not be original to the car, hence adding a different soft top frame won't be doing much harm to the value.

I would be extremely surprised if they fit even remotely - but I don't know this 100% sure. This would help explain the price difference!

I notice that a used 113 soft top frame is being advertised by MB Classic here in Sydney. I don't how much they want for it but it's not likely to be cheap. The web address is http:www.mbclassic.com.au. It's in the Specials section. Hope this helps.

Mark did you notice that they want $1200.00 just for the fabric? I have no idea yet what they want for the frame. At one time I was told $6500.00 plus fabric and fitting.
They used to have a great online catalogues which seem to have disappeared... pity really.

Thanks for the reply.

I bought my funnel shaped rubber vent from Gernold.

I have since looked at a real life w107 car with the soft top up and compared it to the w113.

The rear edge of the door glass on our 113s is at an angle but on the w107 cars it is almost vertical.

I was just day dreaming and looking at a way of saving thousands of dollars.

I met Gernold Nisius in Essen at the Techno Classica last Saturday, and he told me there is a way to convert the California coupe without necessarily having to add the metal softtop well. Still, you're looking at some big bucks. Maybe worthwile to buy a complete parts car considering the prices of some of the individual parts, particularly if such a parts car still has the original W113 engine block (this should raise the value by about $1,000).

I am doing my homework before doing anything about buying a softtop frame.
My car is not a californian coupe, it just never had the soft top supplied and installed.
I saw the listing for the soft top frame, however it is in USD and that is about all I want to pay in AUD.
