Locked sterile wheel and ignition stuck on #3
« on: May 09, 2016, 20:09:54 »
Please help me...I was so excited after I rebuilt my alternator because I was sure this was going to solve my engine problems. I stick my key in the ignition and it locks into position 3 and then the steering wheel locks. I have used graphite, wD40, wiggled, jerked and cursed. What do I do now??  :'( Thanks in advance!!

Typically when the wheel locks, you can unlock by cranking the steering wheel and trying to turn the key while at the same time.  The steering wheel may only move a touch, just enough to take the tension off the lock, but that's usually enough to unlock.

See also the link below, there are probably more.

I agree, the condition described happened to me but was able to free the steering mechanism by gently wiggling the steering wheel to relieve pressure from the ignition lock.
