Aluminum trim
« on: May 21, 2016, 18:07:38 »
Hi Guys,
Please help. Some time ago during the respray of my 250SL, by the previous owner, the paint shop lost the side trim strips and closed up the holes.

I have now managed to obtain the strips, cleaned the holes and replaced the brass strips.
I now have difficulty fitting the lower alu strips. I found some plastic clips, but not sure where they should go.

I have noticed the old yellow clip has a 2mm neck, the neck on the blue is about 1 mm and the one on the top has an insert with a much smaller ball.

My question, were the larger ones used on early 230/250s and the smaller one used on later 250/280s?  Or what is the significance of the different clips?
Your assistance is much appreciated.
Regards
Chris

Hi, Chris,

The yellow clips are for the doors. The aluminium door skin is thicker than the steel fender or panel behind the door.
The steel panels use the blue clips.
The little round headed clip is to secure the steel spring barbs to keep the trim from moving sideways when in place.

Install the clips to the body first. Then press on the trim mouldings.

Lots of pictures and help if you do a search.
