280SL 1968 -- Oily spark plug
« on: June 13, 2016, 05:06:23 »
I wonder when I will finish with the problems on this car!!!
Last week after adjusting perfectly the fuel pump and air flap linkagees, she was running nice.
This weekend I want to start again and she runs very bad, and ends by stoping.
I found the 1 and 2 spark plugs oily, preventing the sparks....
I suppose oil coming down from the valves.
Is it easy to fix without removing the head?

Hello Thierry, are you getting some blue oil smoke from the exhaust?

I didn't notice Joe. I didn't drive the car out yet, just got the injection and air flap adjusted together.
And just found that I had more troubles adjusting because had that oil on the spark plugs preventing ignition sometimes...
What I can say now is that the oil is clean clear, not burned yet.
Just discovered this weekend after the car has been sitting one week.

Change that plug and take your car for a short drive then pull the same plug and see how it looks.

I will do in September, when I come back from France with the parts missing and drive her out the garage!!!
Now I will leave her in the garage away from the rainy season...
Just started her yesterday, no problem.
Probably not enough time since this weekend, for oil to leak down?
