Yes, as Brad mentioned, make sure the points are good and adjusted properly. Check the dwell with a meter. Also makes sure you have the distributor wires in correct sequence. 1,5,3,6,2,4

I replaced my coil and points with the Crane Cams unit. got fed up with the points. Engine runs fine now. I recommend getting rid of the points.
Also when I first got my engine running I did have an issue where I could not get it to idle unless I kept my foot on the accelerator. It turned out I had to disconnect the wire to the stop Solenoid on the injection pump which kept cutting fuel to the injection pump.
