67 Automatic
« on: July 10, 2016, 15:12:45 »
Hi Guys,
Two questions, please.
Is the inhibit switch ,on the fire wall, spring loaded or not? My switch is worn and a bit sloppy, however the detent positions could still be felt.
Is the speedo drive fitting, on the left side of the box, part of the casing or can it be replaced? My clamp is cracked.

I'm not sure but I think the speedo drive is part of the casing. I wouldn't expect the inhibitor switch would be spring loaded as it's controlled by the cable,  but there too I could be wrong.

TKS Cees,
I think you are correct with regard the inhibitor switch. Mine has a very light spring holding the lever up. Other wise the lever sags down and changes the switch position. It seems to work OK, BUT not original.
With regard to the speedo drive casing, I sincerely hope you are wrong. Other wise I' ll have to start looking for a replacement tranny.

Perhaps you can JB Weld or epoxy / otherwise repair the crack in the speedo drive?

TKS Cees,
This might be the ideal opportunity to convince my wife that we need to upgrade to a 5 speed manual.  A '3' speedo slush box is so yesteryear, don't you agree?
Cheers

Keep in mind it is a four speed automatic, it just starts off in 2nd gear. And the conversion from auto to manual is definitely not for the faint of heart (or wallet)!

Hi Jonny,
I purposely put the '3' speed in italics because it starts in 2nd.  Yes, I realise it will be very expensive, BUT one can dream.
Sold my MG on Friday
Cheers
