How to remove antenna?
« on: August 06, 2016, 17:14:35 »
I am trying to remove my front fender mounted manual Hirschmann antenna. I have removed the kick panel and removed the sheet metal screw that was attached at the bottom of the antenna tube, but cannot find any other points of attachment. There does not seem to be anything on it in the Manual. I have tried gently moving the base around to see if it is just hung up from below, but that does not seem to be the issue. Any suggestions, or better understanding of the process?

Thanks,
Roland

did you remove the nut that goes over the antenna and down to the plastic bushing?

It looked like it was a decorative part of the shell and not removable, so I did not try to force it. I could not see any break line between it and the circumference below it.

Here is a composite photo that might help you with the removal and installation.

Turned out to be a combination of my poor eyesight and dim garage lighting, that made it hard to see the split. Got the nut off and antenna out. No problem. Now, is the hole at 320mm? The center seems to be just shy. I wonder how tight the spec is?

Thanks for the pics! Got it out! Now hoping that 2-3mm from being 320mm to center of hole won't make it impossible to mount an automatic Hirschman.

2-3 mm should not be a problem if you use the adjustable tilt set.
Are you planning to install a new Hirschmann power antenna (AUTA 2040 or 2050) or an older used one?

Someone local has an older, used one that I am going to look at.

Take a careful look at the electricals, what kind of ground cable does it have, and also what is there at the bottom to fix it in position.
You may have to drill some holes for a bracket and a ground spot.
Make sure the chrome cap with the "h" logo is in good shape because that is the only indication later that tells you and others that you have one.  ;)

Thanks, will do. I guess I could remove the bracket from my manual antenna to use on the automatic, if there was none on it. But, we'll see what it looks like and what shape it is in.
