Cooling system in 230sl
« on: August 13, 2016, 00:37:01 »
From attached pictures. I noticed that 230sl doesn't have fan clutch like 250 and 280sl. I'm trying to restored my car back to original as much as possible and it appears that my cooling fan has clutch. Can anyone enlighten me on this topics?

The 230SL does not have a fan clutch.
Having driven my 230SL some 25000 miles it has not exhibited any need for one either the car always runs cool with the gauge right at 180 degrees even when blasting at 85 mph.

What about in heavy traffics? Without fan clutch does it heat up when in dead stop traffics and hot weather? I'm living in bangkok with traffic jam and 40deg C.

Without a fan clutch it is direct drive from the belt. It will always spin as fast as the motor is turning.
All a fan clutch does is slow the fan when not needed (cooler temp).
