Distributor cap Cover - Correct?

I attended a Mercedes Benz event car show and noticed on several Pagodas they had a cover over the distributor cap. See photo

Is this a correct part for the Pagoda? Have never seen it before.

Although lots of cars don't have one it is a correct part.

I'm not sure if this is a MB part number but here is the number on the top of my cover:  "MB" logo - 000 158 0785  followed by a "W" in a box. Or maybe that's a "M" in a box.
Hopefully the picture helps.

If you are interested there is also a cap for the coil.  Looks similar to the distributor cap but obviously smaller.

Those are certainly correct and no great surprise why most don't have them. They are a PITA to take on and off! I still use mine but the local dealer or repair shop probably threw them in the trash because they didn't want to take the time to reinstall.

 The early cars did not have them. Sometime around 1969 these were added. If you really want to get picky, the versions used on the W113 engines had steel snaps holding the two halves together. Later incorrect covers are the same except they have plastic snaps. Only ones with plastic snaps are still available. The correct ones with steel snaps go for a premium if you can still find a used one. If you study photographs in the early factory literature (BBB) you will see that no cover is used and the spark plug wires run over top of the injector lines. With the plastic covers, the spark plug wires must run under the injector lines.

These covers carried over a bit into the 107 cars, I found one, with the metal snaps as Joe writes, on ebay a while back. The part number I have on the original one from my 280 SL is 000 158 06 85, and the number is on the side of the unit. There is also a Bosch part number -
1 235 510 000

I suppose you could look in the "Mercedes Collector" articles about changes to W113s over the years and determine exactly when the caps were added. Those go over the changes in minutia. So did the distributor cap covers come in when the spark plug wire steel tube went out? With the steel tube, the wires would have had to go over the top.   

Good to know about the steel snaps versus plastic. I am sure those are super rare indeed. Learn something new everyday on this site.
