Early 230SL owner history
« on: April 10, 2013, 14:59:54 »
I'm trying to obtain some history on my 64 230SL. Several years ago a gentleman named Jason (JAZN) posted a number of messages on this forum about his car, which I believe was an early 230SL.  In one of the messages he stated that his car was sold without a hardtop and that it was originally shipped to St. Pierre Et Miquelon.

Last year I purchased a 230SL at auction and the data card showed that it too was ordered without a hardtop and originally shipped to St. Pierre Et Miquelon.  There weren't many 230SLs shipped to St Pierre and under the pretense that we do in fact live in "a small world" I'm wondering whether JAZN may be a previous owner of my car.  I've looked for a 'Jason' in the pagoda registry with no luck.

If any forum members have been in contact with JAZN over the past year or so, please give me a shout..
take care all, Charles

What a coincidence, I have a 230sl that was shipped to St. Pierre Et Miquelon!
Just kidding.  But I wonder if St. Pierre Et Miquelon was the port of entry for Canadian shipments of Mercedes.  Since it was (and still is) under French control I wonder if there might have been some reason to export to France rather than directly to Canada?

Hi all Pagoda owners whose Pagoda was delivered according to the Mercedes data card to St. Pierre et Miquelon (SPM)

Please look at my message of Sep. 6, 2016 to Full Member Board "New member, Finland/ joelf.

Perhaps we could share some information trying to solve our common mystery where our Pagodas were actually delivered to from the Mercedes factory of Sindelfingen.

With best regards Joel

Hi Charles,

Try the car registry and sort the VIN column perhaps the previous owner added his car info into our "Car Registry"  (just click on VIN heading in the table [scroll down to see the table] and it will sort for you).

Good Luck,

Dieter

I expect that any cars entering Canada via the east coast would likely arrive at Halifax or Montreal. My guess is that any cars going to these two small french islands would be shipped there from a dealership in France and not go anywhere near the USA or Canada.

Hi Benz Dr.

Thank´s for your information.

As it is very obvious that my Pagoda never sat its tires on the soil of SPM in the first place, do you have any idea what was the reason for using 719 (SPM) as a country code in the data card? Was it taxation/ duty reasons?

Something "special" has to be in this case because as it now seems, my Pagoda was not the only one of the 64´s which were officially sent to SPM. My opinion is that some one had a good "business idea" of avoiding extra payments either in Canada or in the US.Never the less at some stage my Pagoda found its way to the US from where it was bought to Finland.

Regards Joel
