Germany not being this large in area, they well can get a large group of people together on a yearly basis. Not same thing we can do in North America (come to think of it all of Germany would fit into Alberta, my former province that I often traveled on business from one end to the other).

Instead of course we get together more locally and our Pagoda SL Group site does help to organize this, when members organize something and let others know here in our Event forum area.

Enjoy the rest of the warm sonny days :) I'm looking forward to fall driving before my hardtop gets reunited with the rest of my car.

Beautiful pictures. Thanks for posting.  Not one car with the American bumpers or headlights. What is it with the license plates? Most have SL and end with H.

Ah Harry, no...
Not quite.
There are cars around with American bumpers and/or headlights,
but you are right. The European looks for the Pagodas is much more in demand on the continent to the eastside of the Atlantic Ocean than on the westside.

Licence plates in DE?
Look here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Germany

Number plates in Germany have a specific order: usually three groups of letters or numbers.

1st group of letters: abbreviation for city or county
(e.g. D = Duesseldorf, M = Munich, HH = Hansestadt Hamburg, CUX = Cuxhaven, etc.).
2nd group: 1 - 2 letters
3rd group: 1 - 3 digit numbers

Often you can choose with the registration office which (center) letters or digits are available.
Thus: "HH  SL 113" or something like that is possible.

The 4th group of lettering is something special.
E = Electro car, numbers = temporary licensing, H = historic car (> 30 years old).

That's it. Very easy.
And ah no, a typical US "fantasy" numberplate like "Pagoda" is not possible in Deutschland.

Wow Awesome pictures.  Looks like all the folks had a great time.
Is there a roster of the years and models of each SL?
Think I saw one 1963 230 in there.
Most of them were of the 280 variety.

Wish I could have been there.

Did this in 2005 (Landshut) and 2007 (Stuttgart) (as well as the 50th event in which we participated)
It was brilliant. Completely loved it, despite having very little German and their being lots of speeches etc. There's always a small group of the UK MB Club members who go.

This chap looks familiar  ;) ;)

Hi James,

I'm sure you also came across many Germans and other Europeans that are very familiar in English unless they came from the former Eastern part of Germany (area that was devised by the east-west border and the wall) where I came from, since we were forced to learn Russian. I only learned English when I immigrated to Canada.
