Hi I just happened to have two WRDs. One is slightly longer than another, wondering which is the correct one for 230sl? Btw what are diff between the two and how it is going to impact the car between the two?

You need to post pictures.
The longer one is for a 230 SL.
You can't use the wrong one, it just won't work.

What will be the symptoms if I use the short one?

It won't physically fit the injection pump body.  The bore size is different.

For whatever reason it does fit. The longer one is like 1cm longer. It came with the new injection pump came from Buds Benz and the shorter one is the new one I bought. I decided to put the shorter into the rebuild pump because I looks newer. Result the engine experience difficult hot start. So I decided to change it back not it is ok. Don't really understand how this small thing can impact so much or it is by chance I'm not sure.

OK, that's interesting.  Are you sure it's not a loose fit in the bore hole?  You may be putting a narrow WRD is a large bore hole.  The geometry that interacts with the pump control is different too.  One WRD has a much longer stroke than the other over its heat range.  The offset (distance from the flange face to WRD tip) might be different too, but I've never checked.

The bottom line is that it won't work.
