Checked the bracket at the floor. It is fine almost upright.
The size of the pedal is 24 cm. To reach the switch it got to be at least 26cm.
14cm. would be about halfway to the switch.
Anyone has a photo of the backside of a RHD pedal.

Garry,
I don't know what measures you have in Australia but 14 cm can not be right. :-)
Bali,
did you check the position and support bracket of the pedal on the floor? The position of the switch looks pretty original. I could imagine that there have been repair works on the floor panel.

It was pretty dark out there when I pulled the coco mats and carpet up, and I have made a real hack of it.

Start again, the length of the pedal is 240mm :o

Not 140mm and not 140cm :-[ :-[ :-[

Hi WRe
This picture confirms thet the pedal is longer than the one on my car. So previous owner put a wrong one.
Now the next hurdle is :is this pedal available?

Here are the relevant part numbers from the 230SL spare parts list.
The RHD pedal is: 110 300 00 02; it is apparently still available from Daimler at EUR 261,80.
Question remains whether you still have the RHD pedal lever (p/n 113 300 01 04) and the RHD support under the pedal (p/n 113 610 03 53) in your car.
Well, i guess one step at a time.

Looks as if the lever is correct as it kicks over to the left at the top of the pic. As opposed to the right on a LHD car. Also looks like a nice wear mark from a different (correct) pedal at the bottom of the lever where it intercepts the pedal.

Thank you all taking interest in my query.
So the conclusion is that I need a pedal for the RHD.
I will start looking for it.
I have just successfully installed 123 distributor. works wonderful.
Now the next attention will be given to the automatic gearbox. Not shifting smoothly.
Wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
