Speedo inner cable

Hi Guys,
Compliments of the season.
Please help, is there a difference between the auto and manual speedo cables? I am talking about the common 3mm end of the inner cable which goes into the tranny. I have installed a new cable but the speedo does not work and I checked the top end of the cable does not turn while driving the car.

The ends are the same. The length is different. Is it possible the end of the cable wasnt fully seated before you installed the allen pinch bolt? It can be deceiving. The pinch bolt must pass through the concave detent in the cable end. Was it working before the cable was replaced?

No, I got the car without the inner and ,yes, the pinch bolt is in the groove. I was led to believe the tranny was reconditioned a while ago. I sincerely hope the speedo drive was installed and if so, correctly.

Put the rear wheels up on jack stands. Put the trans in neutral and rotate one wheel while keeping the other fixed. (You can do this using your feet) Shine a light into the hole and you should see the driven gear end spin.

I think you cant see in there on the auto. I had difficulty inserting the cable end and could not quite see what the problem was.  I'll have another look tomorrow, the car was possibly not raised high enough for me to get up close to look directly onto the hole.

Hi Tyler,
I found the inner cable to lean over to one side and would therefor not mate with the drive coupling.  I sharpened the end slightly, made a little kink and lubed the tip. I then ensured that the inner cable was and stayed in the centre, turned the wheel with my foot and voilà
