How many instrument 2W bulbs are in the centre instrument?
« on: January 02, 2017, 01:28:39 »
Hi,
how many 2W bulbs are in the centre instrument in a 1967 230Sl? My upper/rh cluster (engine and oil wariing lamps) is dark when other 3 clusters are illuminated. It would be good to know before I start taking dash apart.

Tks

Peter

Hi,
there are 7 bulbs BA9S, 2W in the center instrument, see here: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=19084.0.
You'll find here some threads about changing them to 4W bulbs or LEDs. Be aware that the "red indicator light for battery charging (which is also the warning light for "door open" and "low brake fluid") must have some resistance otherwise the charging circuit is compromised", means not to change with a LED.

To answer your question Peter, one 2W lamp in the central cluster. It is constructed deliberately to light only the gauges. The top right corner has only indicator lamps and it doesn't need background lighting.
