Question on Eibach springs
« on: January 27, 2017, 20:06:19 »
Hi
I tried to contact Jim Villers but for some reason the site said it couldn't find him. I'm doing something wrong
I watched the Blacklick video Jim did on springs and have read every post I could find on this topic, but I still have one detail I cannot find.
I want to try the Eibach linear springs at 300 lbs/in. and have the Eibach PN he recommended for the front (1500.500.300). They are $55 a piece and sound ideal for what I'm looking for. I bought the thinnest rubbers for the tops (20mm from SLS both front and back) and the McMaster gaskets he recommended. If I compare the Mercedes HD spring PN specs,(113 321 05 04 vs. 113 321 04 04 std.) they are close to the same specs as the Eibachs, and the MB HD show a 14.41 inch free standing height compared to a 15.25 inch height of a standard MB spring. The Eibachs are 15 inches tall free standing. As expected, the heavier spring needs to start off shorter to end up with the same height when loaded. This .84in. difference should equate to about double that at the wheel which I believe is why he said you have to cut off a couple of inches on the front springs to lower the height as it is more than the thin rubbers can adjust for. I am willing to experiment to do that and use the gaskets to dial in my ride height.
What I cannot find anywhere on this site, is if he found a rear Eibach spring that will work with the same 300 lbs/in. spec. I would prefer to use the same manufacturer front and back.
Thank you
Doug M

I realized I subtracted the wrong number on previous post. The difference I meant to use was the 15 inch height of the Eibach compared to the 14.41 height of the HD MB spring, so .59in.
