Hooking up Radio

 Hi... Would appreciate advice on where the power wire from my Becker radio in my 1970 280SL hooks up. Should there be a wire or fuse box under the dash or that the power wire attaches to or do I need to run a wire through the firewall and attach within the engine compartment? Its not obvious to me where the wire attaches and it was not hooked up when I bought the car. Thanks very much

John, There may or may not be a small fusebox mounted under the hood next to the voltage regulator on the rt fender near the coolant tank. If a radio was not previously installed, you may have to add one. There is a red wire in that location in the harness that feeds the small fusebox. If the fusebox was never added, the wire may be taped back on itself and you will need to remove some tape to find it. The power wire for the radio is then run through the firewall and radio to this fusebox...

 Hi Tyler,
  Thank you very much this was excellent information. I didn't have the small fuse block but did locate the power in the harness near by and confirmed 12VDC. Just on my way to purchase a small fuse block and complete the wiring. Again thanks very much for taking the time to respond.

No problem John.
Be sure that you have the correct wire.
It should be dead with the key off and energized with the key in position (1).
Also be sure your radio set has the correct bracket installed at the rear of the radio. This clip bracket makes contact with the pinch weld at the firewall and supplies the ground for the radio.

 Thanks for the additional information Tyler. I believe I have the correct power supply wire but was unaware of the bracket providing the ground. I had already run a separate wire from the chassis of the radio to a ground terminal under the dash. I'll have to research the bracket further and perhaps install at a later date. Much thanks again.

Do you Have the Becker AM/FM Stereo   Schematics that you could either e-mail or send to me?  Just became for member . I have a 1969 280SL,  1967 BMW 2000CS,  my e-mail is m.gentry@sbcglobal.net My car had a after market radio and it is getting replaced with a remanufacted Becker AM/FM Stereo radio with Bluetooth cable pluged in rear of radio.  Thank You Mike Gentry USA

 Hi Mike,
 I'm afraid I don't have any schematics for my radio however I did need to order some parts for it and found the folks at Becker USA very helpful. They may be able to help you with some schematics. Good luck.

Did you check our Tech Manual? You should be able to find many information re the radio of the type you have. Sadly the link to schematics doesn't work anymore, but this can be found elsewhere on the net.
