Looking for a Mercedes-Benz diesel expert in New Jersey
« on: April 06, 2017, 20:55:10 »
Hi.

WARNING:  Non-Pagoda Related Content!   :)

There's a 190D 2.5 for sale near Trenton NJ and, being in Ohio, I can't personally perform or oversee a pre-purchase inspection.  Are any of you from that area and know of an honest, trust worthy Mercedes-Benz diesel expert who could perform an inspection, or a trust worthy shop it could be taken to for inspection?  I've never purchased a car from far away, so I'm hoping one of you guys can help point me to the right resource.

Thanks!!
Rodd

I have a 5 speed trans for one of those cars. Main thing to look for is rust while mechanical problems can be sorted out.

If worse comes to worse and you can't find someone go on Youtube and look up Rebuilt Mercedes Diesel.  Listen carefully to the audio and you will hear a very distinct clack when each cylinder fires. Have the seller send you a video of the engine running and compare the sound.  The closer it sounds to a gas engine the worse off it is mechanically.  If you have detailed photos of the engine look for a new radiator or water pump which are two good signs it may have been overheated recently.

Rodd, have you contacted the South Jersey or Philadelphia sections (I don't know the specific geographic distributions) of the MBCA and spoken with some of the officers there for a recommendation? Alternatively, Tony Labella and Bob Platz who run well known shops in Camden and Cherry Hill?
